The 1857 Walker organ in the west gallery
The dumb organist sitting on a pew in the gallery.
In this collage we see:
Top L – The label on the outside of the case, giving the tunes and their positions on the barrel;
Top R – The Dumb Organist in position on the organ console;
Below: the case open to show the barrel and knife. The winch handle was unscrewed to allow the case to be opened, and lies to the right.
The back of the box shows at the top the individual adjustments, and below the push rods of two lengths, for black and white keys.
The locating hole on the left still has the broken-off peg.
Accounts of the purchase of the Organ, dumb organist 1857, and regulating the dumb organist, 1860. Documents from the files of Revd. Canon Gary Philbrick.
